Giving you the confidence that a main staple of your business is going to be consistant in supply and quality, from a producer that knows what its doing.
To know that when you phone an order in, it will be delivered when you need it, in the amounts you require, in a polite and friendly manner by one of our delivery drivers, with it being the same quality it was the week before, we're sure will help relieve some of the stress from your business.
Sunny Bank Baits has been owed and run by our family for 51 years, and with that, is in its third generation of ownership, it quite simply runs in our veins. Which as a result makes us passionate and proud to do what we do, and not only that we are all avid anglers, staff included,. Which i believe helps us in knowing what meets the grade on the bank and ultimatley helps produce some of the best quality live baits available on the uk market.
What also helps us achieve this quality, is our combined experience and know how of this industry, and knowing that this job requires constant re-investment into both existing and new technologies such as fridge equiptment, abp processing, waste disposal, transportation, and also making sure that we have the freshest, best quality offal with the highest protein content to feed to our bait.
All of this combines to make the process of growing bait, storing and delivering it to you the customer, as efficient as possible. With the finished product lasting longer and being bigger. Maximising your profitability on a stock item that has a very short and delicate shelf life in comparison to other items.
History
Our story starts all the way back in the early 1950's when our grandfather Harry Taylor began Mink farming. The Mink required feeding everyday which meant that various types of food needed to be sourced, such as fish, Chicken, and Turkey.
As trade was seasonal there would be ups and downs in mink production, but still the same amounts of offal, which led to both our grandfather and father (Peter) making the descision to start up a small maggot farm as a means of generating an income from the surplus amounts of offal left over after feeding the mink.
At first the small amounts of bait produced were sold to a neighboring larger maggot farm, but as word of mouth spread about the quality of bait we supplied, demand steadily increased from anglers and shops throughout Yorkshire, until in 1968 the maggot farm became viable enough to run as its own entity away from the mink farm, and hence from then onwards Sunny Bank Baits was born.
Over the next 40 years, the business continued to grow guided by our grandfather and father, super-ceeding the mink farm with its closure in 1986, with the focus on improving the quality of bait we supplied and expanding our customer basis throughout the uk. With the addition of Peters eldest son, Simon on a full time basis in 1992, saw our company enter its third generation of maggot farmers and a new injection of ambition, brought with it our move to supplying quality bait into europe.
In 2000 our grandfather Harry took his well deserved retirement. Passing his directorship of the the company onto Simon, meaning a new father/son team took to the helm, taking the companies renound notoriety for quality into the new millenium.
Unfortunatley the new millenium brought quite a few downs for Sunny bank baits initially, with the outbreak of foot and mouth in 2001 being an increadably testing year for our business and many others in yorkshire. But thanks to our families business tenacity we mangaged to pull through and begin building our business slowly but surely back up. But these would also prove to be testing years as unfortunatley we would loose the man that started it all, our grandad Harry. But with this loss we pulled together as a family and took the business forward continuing to build on our grandfathers foundations.
2014 saw me the youngest son, follow in the footsteps of my brother and father, and proudly join the helm of this company, that has passed its 50th year of business, a testament in itself to the quality of bait and service we provide to shops and wholesalers throughout the United kingdom.
So what does the future hold?
Well here at Sunnybank baits we will continue doing what we do best providing quality, consistency and customer satisfaction, but also we will be looking at expanding operations, improving our infrastructure, and looking at ways to reduce production costs aswell as lowering our carbon footprint, which is all set to commence over the next 2 years. And also further investing into the fishing community that provides our living, in the forms of sponsorship and running events to encourage fishing in the next generation of anglers.
